Storage FAQ¶
1. How should I store lyophilized peptides?¶
Store lyophilized peptides at -20°C in a freezer with consistent temperature. Protect from light (amber vials or wrapped in aluminum foil). Keep in a desiccated environment — avoid opening vials in high-humidity conditions.
2. What happens if I store at 2–8°C instead of -20°C?¶
Short-term storage (up to 12 months) at 2–8°C is acceptable for most peptides. However, long-term storage at -20°C is strongly recommended as molecular mobility is significantly reduced at lower temperatures, minimizing degradation.
3. Is it safe to store peptides at room temperature?¶
Room temperature storage (25°C) is not recommended for extended periods. Some degradation may occur within days to weeks depending on the specific peptide sequence. Only short-term handling (during weighing and reconstitution) at room temperature is acceptable.
4. How should I handle the vial before opening?¶
Equilibrate the unopened vial to room temperature for 15–30 minutes before opening to prevent moisture condensation on the lyophilized cake. Condensation introduces water, which can accelerate degradation.
5. How should reconstituted peptides be stored?¶
Aliquot into single-use portions immediately after reconstitution. Store at -20°C for long-term use or 2–8°C for short-term use. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles (maximum 3 cycles). Use low-binding microcentrifuge tubes.
6. Do you recommend specific storage containers?¶
We recommend: - Lyophilized: Store in original vial (nitrogen-purged, sealed) - Reconstituted: Polypropylene low-binding microcentrifuge tubes - Avoid: Glass containers (peptide adsorption), PVC, or polystyrene (may leach plasticizers)
7. How does light affect peptide stability?¶
UV and visible light can catalyze oxidation reactions, particularly in peptides containing Met, Cys, Trp, or Tyr residues. Always protect peptides from direct and indirect light exposure during storage and handling.
