2. What Does "98% Purity" Actually Mean?¶
The statement "≥98% purity" refers to HPLC area% purity at 214 nm. This means the area of the target peptide peak constitutes at least 98% of the total integrated peak area in the chromatogram.
Important: HPLC area% is not the same as chemical purity. The actual peptide content (mass%) is typically 70–90% due to: - Residual TFA counterions (5–15%) - Bound water (2–5%) - Other non-peptide components
